Enthovens is the largest single site producer of recycled lead in Europe and part of the worlds largest lead group,Quexco Inc, with lead operations in 7 countries.Enthovens now produces annually around 75000 tonnes of lead products and has expanded its interests into battery strip production and recycling of the polypropylene components from scrap batteries.The company takes a pro-active approach to its environmental responsibilities and has a regular and open dialogue with the local community and is certified to ISO 14001
The site occupies about 10.5 acres in the centre of a 250 acre estate. Part of the site has long been recognised by the Nature Conservancy Council/English Nature as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The estate has been naturally forested for centuries and is home to a large variety of wildlife.In 1984, the wooded area was extended by planting poplars plus a variety of English hardwoods and since then a number of copses have been planted, with the tree variety being selected by ornithologists,giving improved woodland walks for local people and visitors.



H J Enthoven & Sons utilises leading edge technologies through its processing operations, combining energy efficiency, good productivity and high environmental standards. The battery breaker is capable of 50 tonnes per hour of battery throughput with a high degree of separation of the battery components. Rotary furnaces are utilised combining flexibility and good environmental control. The major furnaces are charged using conveyor systems to maximise efficiency. PLC systems are used extensively across the site, allowing for on line monitoring of all major functions.
