site occupies about 10.5 acres in the centre of a 250 acre estate. Part
of the site has long been recognised by the Nature Conservancy Council/English
Nature as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The estate has been naturally
forested for centuries and is home to a large variety of wildlife. In 1984,
the wooded area was extended by planting poplars plus a variety of English
hardwoods and since then a number of copses have been planted, with the
tree variety being selected by ornithologists, giving improved woodland walks
for local people and visitors. |
